Mississippi: 11-Year-Old Charged with Beating Dog to Death

In a heart-wrenching incident from Petal, Mississippi, an 11-year-old boy was charged with aggravated animal cruelty after allegedly beating a family dog named Chico to death with a stick. The incident was captured on video by a neighbor, leading to the arrest of the boy and his grandmother, who was charged with neglect for failing to supervise the child adequately.

The dog’s owner, Timber Roberts, is now advocating for stronger animal protection laws under Mississippi’s “Buddy’s Law,” which requires psychiatric evaluations for children who commit acts of animal cruelty. This case underscores the need for education, supervision, and intervention to prevent such acts of violence against animals, especially by minors.
